Overview

Moultrie Mobile is a leading producer of off-grid trail cameras with rapid year-over-year growth. Their mobile app enables customers to remotely view and manage images and video from their smart cameras. I was brought on as their first UX designer to elevate the product experience and establish design best practices.

My Role

Principal Product UX Designer - Solo designer responsible for UX strategy, interaction design, visual design, and design system.

• Partnered with 3 Product Managers and engineering teams (grew from 3 to 20 developers during my tenure)
• Established UX processes and educated stakeholders on user-centered design
• Conducted user research, audits, and designed across multiple product initiatives
• Worked within Xamarin development environment constraints

The Challenge

The company had a functional app built to support their devices, but lacked UX expertise and design maturity:

• No established UX process, research foundation, or quantitative baseline metrics
• Onboarding and first-time user experience had friction points
• Inconsistent UI patterns and no component library
• Stakeholders eager to add new features before addressing foundational usability issues

My approach: Build trust through education, start with comprehensive research, and advocate for fixing core experiences before adding complexity.
